Why You Need A Local
Estate Planning Attorney In Connecticut

Here is why Stillman & Associates, LLC, is unique from both large, national estate planning/Medicaid companies and AI/online guidance:

Connecticut is only one of five 209(b) states that follow different Medicaid laws. Generic online recommendations or advice that is applicable to other states doesn’t necessarily apply to Connecticut families. Generic and/or national planning advice may not take advantage of local laws and/or local Medicaid exceptions; local counsel is needed in Connecticut.

AI advice is generally comprised from laws that are inapplicable to Connecticut. Similarly, national Elder Law companies usually don’t follow Connecticut-specific advice and/or miss out on local Medicaid planning opportunities.

Online AI, national estate planning companies, or Medicaid planning companies often have employees (not lawyers) who provide incorrect procedural advice or miss planning opportunities.  Financial managers who take on these tasks, professionals in other fields, and even attorneys who practice in other fields, provide insufficient or incorrect procedural guidance based on national, not local, rules and exceptions The incorrect advice can result in financial waste and/or an incorrect course to follow, sometimes to their clients’ detriment. Once the wrong “course” is pursued, the situation may be irreversible, as the individuals may have either lost capacity and/or died. The subsequent result is that their families are then “stuck” with an incorrect and/or incomplete estate plan and/or Medicaid plan.

We are often asked to address estate plans, Medicaid plans, or asked to review estate documents for clients who have been provided incorrect or incomplete information.  Financial managers, accountants, out-of-state counsel, etc….often seek our advice on local estate and Medicaid plans.

We encourage any/all clients seeking legal advice/counsel in Connecticut to engage local attorneys in these fields (even if not our office) to ensure they receive correct advise/counsel. We encourage people to ensure their hard earned livelihoods are properly managed.

People generally work 40 hrs/weekly, 50 weeks/annually, for a period of 40 years; this equates to 80,000 hours worked over one’s life. Our office’s goal is to ensure that money earned during one’s lifetime of work is well planned and accounted for as part of their estate plans and/or Medicaid plans. We welcome the opportunity to consult with clients, even if only taking only a few hours to review their current status, current documents, and advise them accordingly to update their existing estate and/or Medicaid plans.
